Subsio

Browser Extension Privacy Policy

Updated October 23, 2026

This policy describes the Subsio browser extension and supplements the Subsio Privacy Policy.

Information used to provide subtitles

When you connect an account, Subsio uses your account identifier, email address, plan and credit balance. The extension stores a separate scoped session credential and temporary pairing state in trusted browser-extension storage. You sign in on Subsio's website; the extension does not ask for your password or give video websites your account credential.

For subtitle discovery, the extension reads relevant player and page metadata, such as the movie or series title, year, season and episode. Your search query, selected title, subtitle release, requested language and processing request are sent to Subsio when needed to provide the feature. A purchase records the website hostname, such as netflix.com, with your subtitle history. Full visited-page URLs and general browsing history are not uploaded for this purpose.

Subsio processes subtitle text for requested translations and stores completed files, job information, credit transactions and subtitle history so you can retrieve purchased subtitles. Your own subtitle files can be displayed locally without a paid translation. The extension does not upload the video you are watching.

Product analytics

Subsio records account-bound actions such as requested translations, subtitle delivery, saved-result reuse, player subtitle loading and download initiation, together with the website hostname, selected catalog title/episode, languages, provider and cache result where available. These signals measure use of Subsio and do not establish that you watched a film. DataFast receives pseudonymous account/visitor identifiers and limited event metadata, without subtitle text, email addresses, credentials, signed links or full browsing URLs. New raw product-event and marketing-attribution records in Subsio's database are kept for up to 90 days; subtitle context remains with saved history. Existing installations need the updated extension to report player load/download signals.

Local settings and website access

Preferred language, caption appearance and website choices are stored locally. Browser permissions let the extension find video players and display subtitles on supported or user-enabled websites, including embedded player frames. Optional access to additional websites or automatic detection is requested through the browser. These permissions do not authorize unrelated data collection.

Service providers and security

Subsio uses its hosting, account and storage infrastructure, subtitle and title-data providers, and AI translation providers, including Google's Gemini service, to deliver requested features. Requests may share the title query, subtitle text and associated technical metadata needed for that service. Billing is handled through Subsio's website and Stripe; the extension does not collect payment-card numbers. Network services receive normal connection information, such as IP addresses, for request handling, security and rate limiting. Subsio API requests use HTTPS.

Extension data is used to provide, maintain and secure the subtitle service. It is not sold, used for advertising targeting, transferred for unrelated purposes, or used to determine creditworthiness or for lending decisions.

Retention and your choices

Local preferences remain until cleared or the extension is removed. Scoped sessions expire and can be revoked by disconnecting the extension. Subtitle files and purchase records are retained with your Subsio account to support history, free restoration and accounting. Temporary pairing requests expire. Account deletion requests are subject to necessary billing, legal and security record retention.

You can disable the extension on a website, turn off automatic video detection, revoke browser website permissions, disconnect your account, or uninstall the extension. Uninstalling does not by itself delete server-side account records.
